The Department of Physics, Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University invites applications for one faculty position at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor, as described below.

Theoretical Particle and Nuclear Physics Group or Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics Group
Research Field We seek candidates working broadly in theoretical physics related to quantum science. We particularly welcome researchers who can develop original research in areas connecting particle physics and cosmology, nuclear theory, and condensed matter theory—including fields such as quantum gravity and quantum many-body physics—with quantum information, quantum computing, quantum technologies, and quantum sensing, as well as at the interfaces among these fields.
Responsibilities The successful candidate will conduct research in the areas described above, contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in the Department of Physics, and participate in university administration.
Qualifications Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and have an outstanding research record in theoretical physics related to quantum science.
Starting Date As early as possible on or after June 1, 2027.
Terms of Employment
  1. Term: The position is permanent and subject to Tohoku University’s mandatory retirement regulations.
  2. Salary: Salary will be determined in accordance with Tohoku University regulations, taking into account the successful candidate’s experience and employment history.
  3. Work location: Aobayama Campus, Tohoku University
    6-3 Aoba, Aramaki, Aoba-ku, Sendai, Miyagi, Japan
  4. Other terms and conditions of employment will be governed by the relevant regulations of Tohoku University.

  • Tohoku University has the largest on-campus childcare system of all Japanese national universities. This network comprises three nurseries: Kawauchi Keyaki Nursery school (capacity: 22) and Aobayama Midori Nursery school (116), both open to all university employees, as well as Hoshinoko Nursery school (120), which is open to employees working at Tohoku University Hospital.
