POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AT DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS,
TOHOKU UNIVERSITY    (December 24, 2003)

A Post Doctoral position will open from April 1 2004 in the condensed matter theory division for the newly started COE project "Exploring New Science by Bridging Particle-Matter Hierarchy", headed by Prof. A. Suzuki and financed by the Japanese government. International applications are invited with the following conditions.

1. POSITION:
Postdoctoral fellow, category A or B.

2. AREAS OF RESEARCH:
Condensed matter theory

3. QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Date of birth after 31 March, 1968;
(2) Degree of PhD already awarded or to be awarded by the time of appointment;
(3) No additional positions to be held other than the present one.

4. TERMS OF APPOINTMENT:
Appointment is for each year, and the total period is two years normally.

5. SALARY:
Young Research Fellow Category A: monthy about 400,000 Yen,
Young Research Fellow Category B: monthy about 300,000 Yen.

6. PROCEDURE OF SELECTION:
Adoption either as category A or B will be decided according to qualification described in
the CV, with possible interview if considered necessary. Applicant should state if
category B is not acceptable for him or her. Selection of the category will be notified
before appointment.

7. PAPERS TO BE SUBMITTED:
(1) Curriculum vitae;
(2) List of publications;
(3) Reprints of main papers up to three;
(4) Summary of research (up to 1,000 words)
(5) Research plan (up to 1,000 words)
(6) Recommendation letter from a supervisor or from other appropriate recommender.

8. DEADLINE OF APPLICATION:

Earliest possible date after 31 March 2004.
